Just read an article http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2011/09/large-american-pharmaceutical-companies-ways.html that uses the phrase “socialized healthcare” in what seems like a derogatory way. The author does not describe his country’s healthcare system as a “profit-oriented healthcare” or “commercial healthcare”, which might place the whole thing in another light. I live in a country that shares the cost of healthcare among the citizens and does not inflate costs by having to ensure that a portion of the revenue is sent out as profit. No doubt he has other points that I’m not debating here (eg what the American taxpayer should or should not subsidize etc) since it’s not my territory. But for me, “socialized” is not a dirty word.
